[chsh] Run and understand. Change the default shell with the chsh command

Introduction

This repository runs the chsh command to change the shell used in new windows or the next login.

Commands that need to be installed

Quickstart

After executing the chsh command, open a new window or log out to check if the shell has been changed.

ubuntu

chsh -s /bin/sh
#Please log out from the top right corner of the desktop screen.
echo $SHELL
Output results
/bin/sh

macos

MacPorts

chsh -s /bin/zsh
#Open a new window with ctrl+n or cmd+n
echo $SHELL
Output results
/bin/zsh

windows

WSL2

chsh -s /bin/sh
#Close the prompt and reopen it
echo $SHELL

/bin/sh

MSYS2 MINGW64

Not possible

Enter the following command into the terminal and if command not found does not appear, it is OK.

※MacOS uses the MacPorts package manager to manage commands. If you haven’t installed it yet, please see the MacPorts installation instructions at the link below.

It also allows you to set aliases for commands so that you can call them without conflicting with existing environments.

※Windows has been confirmed to work with WSL2 and MSYS2 MINGW64. Please install WSL2 if possible, and if you are unable to set it up, you can run it by installing MSYS2, but there may be some commands that can only be run in WSL2. Please refer to the following article for instructions on how to install WSL2 and MSYS2.

Afterword

You can change to a shell other than /bin/sh or /bin/zsh by running

cat etc/shells #Please put / before etc.

Select the shell you want to return to from

cat etc/shells #Please put / before etc.

Please run

chsh -s /bin/bash
